Taking the Test Onsite

Many candidates like to attend in-person conferences or educational events to ensure that they have the knowledge needed to take a BMSC certification exam. While BMSC encourages this practice, please keep in mind that conferences are not designed to train you to pass a given test.

To register for a certification exam at a conference, simply visit the Events page, click on the conference you are interested in attending, and register for both the conference and the exam for which you are interested. Please be informed that there is an additional fee to take the exam at a conference. You may also download and fax your exam registration form to 301-287-2535.

Taking the Test Online

To take your test online, you will be using our Individual Proctoring Protocol, which allows you to take the exam under the supervision of a proctor. If you would like to take your credential examination online, you can register online for the exam or download and fax the appropriate forms to 301-287-2535.

Proctor Nomination Form:

The following should be included on the proctor nomination form which will be submitted together with your registration:

Candidates must first select a qualified individual proctor and complete and return the Proctor Nomination Form along with your exam registration to BMSC for approval. BMSC will then email a username and password for the relevant credential to the approved proctor who will log you in on your assigned test day, after ensuring a testing environment that keeps with the BMSC Code of Ethics and proctoring requirements.

A qualified proctor should be an impartial test administrator. Your proctor can be anybody (he or she does not have to be a professional coder) who is willing to ensure standard and fair test conditions and:

  1. Is not a family member or related to you
  2. Does not report to you
  3. Will not accept compensation for proctoring services.

Upon receipt of the username and password, the proctor will:

  1. Schedule a time and place for the candidate to sit for the examination
  2. Review the test instructions and parameters (time and resource limitations, etc.)
  3. Co-sign, with the candidate, the Statement of Compliance, and
  4. Administer the examination according to the agreed-to instructions for online testing.

When the test-taker submits the exam, the proctoring work is completed. BMSC will contact the test-taker within six weeks of the results of the exam.

As a credential candidate, you agree to abide by the requirements of the Individual Proctoring Protocol, and you understand that failure to comply with these requirements may result in your disqualification.

If you would like to take your credential examination online at your own office, you can register online for the exam or download and fax the appropriate forms to 301-287-2535.
