Certification is available for coders within physician offices or facilities, within home care organizations, for compliance officers. If you’re a coder within a physician office, you have a choice of two exams based upon your job experience:
If you have a good knowledge of CPT®, ICD-9, HCPCS and general coding and billing issues in your specialty, become a Specialty Coding Professional (SCP). The SCP is aimed at specialty coders who have about two years experience.
You know your specialty in-and-out and all the regulations surrounding it. Become an Advanced Coding Specialist (ACS). The ACS is aimed at specialty coders with 3-5 years of experience and more!
